School, teachers’ salaries are growing: Italy ranks fourth in the EU

The salaries of Italian teachers are growing and they stand in fourth place in the ranking which captures the average annual salary of teachers working full-time in state and public schools in the member countries of the European Union. According to the OECD Talis report, released by Invalsi, their salary is 28,113 euros per year, calculated in Pps (Purchasing Power Standard), thanks to the latest contractual renewal.

In first place is Austria (34,240 euros), followed by Spain (34,179) and Sweden (29,730). Behind Italy are France (27,439), Finland (27,337) and Portugal (25,693). The situation of Italian teachers, then, improves further after fifteen years of career, with the purchasing power rising to 37,139 euros per year, surpassing their Swedish colleagues in the ranking (34,190). At the end of their career, however, Italian teachers fall to fifth position with 43,407 euros, surpassed by Portugal and France.
