The Diocese of Ragusa celebrates its 74 years

The Diocese of Ragusa celebrates today, May 6, the 74th anniversary of its foundation. It was in fact May 6, 1950 when the Diocese of Ragusa was actually born with the papal bull “Ad dominicum gregem” of Pius XII. The process was completed on October 1, 1955 when, with the bull “Quamquam est christianae”, the Diocese of Ragusa was separated from the Archdiocese of Syracuse and on the same day Monsignor Francesco Pennisi was appointed the first bishop of the autonomous diocese.

For the Church of Ragusa it will be a special year that will prepare the Jubilee that Monsignor Giuseppe La Placa wanted to live even more fully the goal of the 75 years of mission of the Diocese.

«It will be an opportunity – said the bishop Monsignor Giuseppe La Placa – to rediscover the young history of our Church, to bring out figures of lay and priestly holiness and the figures of pastors, to give impetus to the synodal path, to give new impetus to evangelization and to charity, consolidate pastoral choices based on communion and synodality”.
