An important resolution was signed by the Director General of Asp Basilicata Antonello Maraldo in this first weekend of May and it’s about the hiring, even if for a fixed period, of two endocrinologists following the public notice for qualifications and interview announced in mid-February.
The two endocrinologists strengthen a critical sector of local healthcare, that of Diabetology which represents a raw nerve for the entire national healthcare system. The well-known shortage of medical professionals in the sector has been compounded by some misunderstandings regarding the supply of aids for diabetic patients due to slowdowns due to the new tender which recently concluded.
The procedures of the new tender concluded at Suarb are already producing positive effects, so much so that patients now no longer have to ask diabetologists to advance prescriptions by up to 90 days to allow supplies to be supplied in the necessary time. The Asp Basilicata communicates that we are proceeding with recoveries clearing the backlog to get back in line shortly with the provision of devices for monitoring glycemic levels that diabetic patients need. This is why the General Management asks citizens to be patient and wait for the immediate resolution of any possible inconvenience.
The president of theAlad Fand-Lucanian Diabetics Assistance Association Antonio Papaleo welcomed the resolution signed by the Director which “denotes a positive interest in the issues raised over time regarding the shortage of medical personnel and the difficulties in supplying sensors in particular. An intervention that today allows us to limit the use of long waiting lists and medical emigration which have resulted not only in an increase in regional healthcare spending but which have led some patients to give up treatment, creating a detrimental effect on their health and encountering serious complications”.
The General Director Maraldo recalls how, despite the difficulties in finding doctors, he had announced since his inauguration that the Potenza Health Authority “he would pursue every possible path to try to identify new professionals to make up for objective shortcomings. We have tried to overcome the new controls and supply difficulties reported for some time with the new tender, so in the coming weeks we are confident in a resumption of the latest generation supplies in a more fluid and linear way”.
As for the hiring of the two endocrinologists, Maraldo hopes that the two professionals will win the notice “let them accept the assignment and take up services quicklyor”.
