The long marathon of the Serie C playoffs will start tomorrow evening with the first round matches and nine teams out of the twenty-eight participants will immediately say goodbye to the competition. Another six, however, will be eliminated in the second round of the single group scheduled for Saturday and followed by the first national round in which the Benevento. In addition to the Giallorossi, the other two third-placed teams (Vicenza and Carrarese) and Catania (winner of the Italian Cup) will enter the scene.
This step, as well as the following three and from the second national team there will also be Padova, Torres and Avellino, involves home and away matches, but unlike the semi-finals and finals there will be no extra time or penalties, and consequently they will advance to the second national round the best classified. Gaetano Auteri’s crew, therefore, will need just as many draws in the first two matches to continue their journey in a competition that has given them so much pain and just two joys.
This year’s event will, in fact, be the Strega’s sixteenth experience in the play-offs and in the various years in which the Giallorossi club took part in the promotion play-offs (C2, C1 and B) the jump in category only occurred in 1999 with the return to C1 in the final in Lecce against Messina and in 2017 with the first historic promotion to Serie A.
