PESCARA. “There are 23 ‘stars’ from the Scuola Professione Danza of Pescara who last April achieved first place in the rankings in the world classical and contemporary dance competition of the Youth America Grand Prix held in New York at Lincoln Center. We are talking about an institution in the dance sector to which today the Municipality of Pescara and the Abruzzo Region wanted to pay homage by delivering a commemorative plaque and souvenir scrolls to fix in time and memory an event of extraordinary importance which has given luster and prestige to the name of the our city.” This was said by the Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Pescara Patrizia Martelli as she opened the meeting with the 23 Professione Danza athletes, with the families and with the founder of the structure Michela Sartorelli. Present were the President of the Council of the Abruzzo Region Lorenzo Sospiri and the mayor Carlo Masci.

“The applause certainly goes to the very young athletes who were able to defend the colors of Italy and the Adriatic capital – said President Sospiri -, but it also goes to the families, to the parents, who allowed our kids to participate in a historic event which will leave an indelible mark and memory in their lives. The Abruzzo Region will identify the right measures to make its closeness felt in a tangible way, without prejudice to the fact that at this point I expect a great dance show to open the next season of the D’Annunzio Festival next September, perhaps even with the staging of the show brought to New York”. “Thanks certainly go to maestro Sartorelli who with Professione Danza, opened in 2011 – said councilor Martelli – achieved a great goal, a dream, that is, founding a school to make dance a profession”. “You have brought the name of Pescara to an intercontinental level – added Mayor Masci -. With these young people from Pescara we have climbed to the roof of the world which is extraordinary for a city that lives on sport as an instrument of tourism and economic vitality”.

Immediately after President Sospiri delivered the plaque of the Abruzzo Region, councilor Martelli and mayor Masci delivered the parchments to the following athletes who participated, namely Elisa Fardella, Giacomo Giampaolo, Irene Iaccarino, Edoardo Luis Mancini, Giulia Valente, Sofia Bolgini, Federica Ciocca, Luca D’Angelo, Greta D’Aurelio, Chiara Di Renzo, Mariateresa Ferro, Lucrezia Mambella, Maura Moggi, Nicla Navelli, Claudia Tinari, Marlene Marzocchi, Martina Anniciello, Chiara D’Alo’, Rebecca Gentile, Rebecca Menna, Sara Resta, Davide Storto, Giada Germano. The young talents from Abruzzo arrived in the USA after winning the European finals held in Verona last November and competed for the podium with over 2000 participants from 5 continents. The international jury was made up of the directors of the largest academies and companies in the world such as the Royal Ballet, the Paris Opera, the American Ballet and Princess Grace of Monte Carlo. The Professione Danza students danced to a choreography by Master Roberta Ferrara, an internationally renowned choreographer and regular teacher at the Pescarese school.
