Lando Norris joins the list of winners of a Formula 1 GP. After yesterday’s race in Miami, a promise made by Norris towards McLaren has resurfaced on social media.
McLaren was the real surprise of last night’s GP in Miami. The MCL38 arrived in the United States in a B version, enriched with many visible and invisible technical updates. A victory which eluded Lando Norris for many seasonsbut what time will remember for a long time to come. Years that have passed since one strange promise made to McLaren from Norris and which he should now honor.
Lando Norris’ victory came after a race of pure performance and a bit of luck with the exit of the SC due to the Sargeant – Magnussen accident. Despite this pseudo help from the safety car, the MCL38 proved to be one very strong car in the warm up of the compounds and in its management. The pace set by Norris was impressive, so much so that he reached the finish line with a gap of more than 5 seconds compared to Verstappen.

A success sought and desired for many years for Lando Norris, who a few years ago made a promise in a McLaren video. The context is that of the McLaren Technology Center in Woking, with Lando Norris walking inside the structure in a late afternoon in 2020. In those video frames the pond in front of the structure is filmed with the cameraman asking the neo winner in F1. “Can you swim in it?” asks Norris, “No I will not do it” Lando responds immediately. Shortly after, however, he thinks back to who did it, “I think Lewis dove into it, didn’t he?”. A few moments later the promise arrives with Norris expressing himself like this “I think when I get my first win I’ll dive in [nel laghetto] …now that I’ve said it I have to do it”.
