At the Santa Chiara Lab, the social enterprise Generazione T, the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation and the University of Siena, created the event “Generazione Europa al Voto” to talk about the European elections that will be held on 8 and 9 June, with the aim of raising awareness among the new generations on the topic of voting and the consequent rights. Abstentionism represents a central problem of youth policies, on which Generation T actively works, and creating moments of discussion for young people with young people is the beginning of a project that aims to contain the problem. Speaking with institutional greetings were Roberto di Pietro, Magnificent Rector of the University of Siena, Carlo Rossi, President of the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation, Antonio Parenti, Head of the European Commission’s Representation in Italy. The meeting then continued, dividing itself into two moments: during the first panel “Civic participation: experiences compared” Federica Celestini Campanari, Extraordinary Commissioner of the Italian Youth Agency, Mattia Angeleri of 20e30, Adriano Bertone, President of Generazione T, Martina Turola, The Good Lobby. During the second panel “Choose the Europe you want” Paolo di Falco, CNC Media, Mattia Angeleri, as spokesperson for AQTR, and Camilla Ferrario, from Will Media, spoke. “At the center of the event was a fundamental topic of youth issues: abstentionism in politics. A problem which, however, does not only concern the European elections which will be held in June, but is rather the result primarily of a strong territorial disinterest- declares Adriano Bertone, president of Generazione T- It is not possible to think that young people can have an interest at a European or national level if they do not have it at a local level. But paradoxically we know there is hope: the latest data and analysis have shown that young people place greater trust, at a political level, in the administrations of the places where they live. And this is why we must first invest in these territories and in creating a strong relationship between young people and local administrations. The work done in synergy with the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation and the University of Siena is the perfect example of this – continues Bertone- Thanks to the creation of a forum “Uno Sguardo Giovane”, we managed to involve university associations and therefore young people from all over Italy but also from abroad, with the aim of raising their awareness of youth policies. An objective achieved and which led to the creation of today’s event. A meeting attended by various representatives of fundamental realities regarding youth policies with which we will give life to important projects to solve the problems of the new generations.”
