Matera: 1st edition Stone Balance Interfest

The first edition of the Esperanto cultural association is organised Stone Balance Interfestc that swill be held in Matera, from 31 May to 2 June and which will feature 7 international Stone Balance artists from the Philippines, France, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

The initiative aims to promote knowledge of a contemporary art form that is new to the Lucanian area but already established and widely practiced throughout the world.

It’s about the Stone Balancethe art of balancing stones, which sees artists (balancers) engaged in a performative process to compose sculptures of stones placed in bold balance with each other. This artistic practice requires al balancer a state of profound calm and intimate relationship with the natural objects that he finds himself handling, almost like in a meditation. The search for the balance necessary for the persistence of the sculptures thus becomes a metaphor for inner well-being and a profound connection with nature.

Esperanto intends to promote, in a new way, knowledge of the Matera territory through experiential proposals born from the synthesis between the contemporary artistic language of Stone Balance and the most characteristic dimension of Matera, a city carved into the rock and inherent to it.

The festival includes a rich calendar of performances artistic, art exhibitions and educational workshops that will take place in some of the most representative places of the city of Matera such as hypogea, museums and urban spaces.

The initiative is carried out with the contribution of the Matera-Basilicata 2019 Foundation.

It has received the patronage of: Municipality of Matera, Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, Murgia Materana Park Authority, Legambiente Basilicata Aps, ANFFAS national association of families of people with intellectual/relational disabilities.
