Lombardy focuses on green transport with hydrogen buses and cars

The Councilor for Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Lombardy Region participated this morning in ‘H2 Smart Mobility Day’, the first test drive in Lombardy along the main streets of MIND – the Decumanus and the Cardo – as part of the MIND Innovation Week , with hydrogen-powered buses and cars. The initiative was organized by Think Smart Mobility @MIND in collaboration with Arexpo Spa, Lendlease Italia and Fondazione Triulza.

“In Lombardy – stated the regional councilor – the first hydrogen train in Italy will circulate, on the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo route. Demonstrating that we firmly believe in sustainable mobility, in a green and zero-emission transport system. Our efforts must proceed hand in hand with investments in infrastructure, both road and rail, and we need the involvement of all players in the sector, from public to private. In this regard – he concluded – I reiterate the need to equip the territory with electric charging stations and modernize the Lombardy lines”.

Since 2020, the Lombardy Region has invested over 250 million euros to renew the local public transport fleet. By 2026 there will be over 1,000 new vehicles and, of these, more than 400 will be powered by electricity, hydrogen and methane while the other 600 will be diesel and hybrid. Furthermore, more than 1.7 billion euros have been allocated for the purchase of 222 new trains, which will completely renew the fleet by 2025.
