Catania, caught red-handed while breaking into a van: reported

The 40-year-old of Tunisian origins often wandered near the Catania train station and was caught by the Carabinieri of the Catania Radiomobile Unit while he was trying to steal work tools and a bike from inside a van.

In particular, it was around 5 in the morning when a possible theft attempt along Corso Martiri della Libertà was reported to the Army Operations Centre, which immediately alerted a “gazelle” who was already in the area, in a dedicated service to the prevention and fight against predatory crimes.

Specifically, the soldiers of the 62nd Sicilian Infantry Regiment, engaged in the operation “Safe Streets”, becoming suspicious of a man who was wandering near a pickup truck, they followed him and caught him as he broke the rear window of the vehicle. At that point, they intervened, stopped him and asked for the help of the Carabinieri, who in a few moments reached the indicated place, surprising the 40-year-old who, equipped with a “crowbar” and a screwdriverwas tinkering with a van, parked on the side of the road.

At that point the inspection operations and the search were carried out immediately, which made it possible to ascertain how the petty thief had just broken the rear window of the commercial vehicle, to try to steal some tools and a bicycle from inside the cargo compartment.

The man was then reported to the Judicial Authority for attempted theft and damageand the owner of the vehicle was immediately contacted to return the goods.
