Avella
The community of Avella is in shock over the tragic death of Anna Maria Sodano, 73 years old, died in a tragic car accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon. Pain that adds to pain, in the small community of the district led by Vincenzo Biancardi, for a tragic fatality that saw mother and daughter involved in the same accident. In fact, at the wheel of the car, which ended up against a tree in the Monteforte Irpino area, was Mrs. Anna Maria’s daughter, councilor Santina Cerbone, who was injured.
THEThe dramatic road accident occurred along the national road that connects Monteforte Irpino to Taurano and Mugnano del Cardinale, in the Gaudi area, after the crossroads to continue towards Taurano. Today the appointed medical examiner will carry out the examination on Mrs Sodano’s body, in the morgue of the San Giuseppe Moscati hospital, where the woman had been taken in a desperate attempt to save her life. Relief that unfortunately proved useless: the lady in fact died in hospital shortly after her crash. Councilor Santina Cerbone was injured in the impact, and she remains hospitalized in the Avellino hospital, but fortunately her condition is not serious.
“We are devastated – comments the mayor Vincenzo Biancardi -. The tragedy that struck the Sodano-Cerbone family has overwhelmed the entire community. We are and will be close to Santina and her loved ones in this tragic moment. We ask for prayers and silence for this drama, which shocked every Avellana family.”
According to an initial reconstruction carried out by the police on Saturday afternoon, around 1pm, the car carrying the two women, councilor Cerbone and her mother, crashed into a tree on the side of the road. The passenger, a 73-year-old from Avella, lost her life after being admitted to hospital. The two women, who were stuck in the car, were rescued from the 118 station in Baiano. The rescuers in fact extracted them from the car and urgently transported them to the emergency room of the San Giuseppe Moscati hospital in Avellino. Despite attempts to save her, the seventy-three-year-old didn’t make it. The firefighters of the Provincial Command of Avellino also intervened on site. The cause of the loss of control of the car is under investigation.
The Mayor’s words reflect the sense of solidarity and closeness that the Avellana community wanted to demonstrate towards the councilor and his family.
