The “Migrantes” diocesan center is launching the “People’s Festival” again this year. It is a cultural-folkloric event that now boasts decades of life in Reggio Calabria, taking advantage of different areas of the city, such as Piazza Duomo, Via Marina, the municipal villa and, in recent years, Piazza Mezzacapo, better known as Piazza Sant’ Augustine.

This year the appointment with the Festa dei Popoli is set for Sunday 12 May 2024: throughout the day there will be gazebos in the square, where each ethnic group will be able to display informative material and typical products of their countries of origin, with a view to offering a better knowledge of values and traditions which also enrich the Calabrian cultural heritage, in which immigrants are integrated. Then, starting from 4pm, some ethnic communities will alternatewho will perform with music and dances from the popular folklore of their countries of origin.

Each event has the purpose of solicit everyone’s attention and commitment to realizing the theme of the event, summarized in the slogan “Let’s liberate Peace”. In our time, in fact, peace is as if chained, enslaved by weapons, power and violence. The ethnic communities, which represent some peoples present in the territory of this city, intend to express through music, song and dance their desire to liberate and give peace to all: peace between us; peace in our homes and families; peace in this city and in the Italian nation; peace throughout the world.
In particular, they hope peace for the areas of the world that are today devastated by war: especially for theUkraine, Israel and the PalestineThe Sudanthe Syriathe countries of Latin America and Africa that have been unable to live in peace for a long time.
