Grifone ended the championship in the worst possible way, losing in one fell swoop the second position (conquered a week earlier) and the external unbeaten record (shared until yesterday with this year’s super Trapani).
The sad thing, however, is that it all came after a truly forgettable second half, where the red and whites left the ball in the hands of Montevarchi, ending up conceding 3 goals.
Furthermore, it was the worst performance (that of the second half) under Malotti’s management, but also the first defeat of the Florentine coach.
Now, head to the play-offs with one of the most heartfelt derbies, the one against Livorno, in the semi-final on Sunday 12 May at the Zecchini.
The Maremmans will have two results out of three available as they will be able to access the final even if they draw within extra time.
The eventual final, however, in the event of a draw in the 90th minute, will be resolved immediately on penalties.
Returning to the championship, the numbers say that Grosseto finished fourth for wins (16), first for draws (15), first for the fewest defeats (3) and fourth for both attack and defense.
However, it is impossible not to notice how the unionists left 8 points on the field between Sansepolcro, Cenaia and Ponsacco, or against the third to last, the penultimate and the last, all directly relegated.
Certainly, it was a season where, data in hand, the change on the bench between Bonuccelli and Malotti was late.
Let’s be clear, Bonuccelli remains an excellent coach, but, unfortunately, the love between him and Grosseto (understood as a club and a square) never developed.

In any case, next Sunday we will see if and how the red and whites will react to an opponent against whom the matches are always very heartfelt.
For many players it will be yet another chance to convince CEO Vetrini to confirm them, even if, it must be said, some big names have undoubtedly disappointed.
