Antiquity comes to life in the heart of Marsala with the extraordinary opening of the Lilibeo Park, on Sunday 12 May from 10am to 1pm. The archaeologists of ArcheOfficina and the Lilibeo Park will accompany visitors on a journey through the ages, revealing the results of the recent campaign of excavation in the urban site of the Punic Moat. The discoveries are already fascinating: from the discovery of abundant ceramics from the Roman, late Roman and Punic periods, including amphorae, jugs and oil lamps, to the scientific confirmation of the dating of the fortification in the area of the Norman-Swabian castle. But the investigations don’t stop here. A second essay in progress promises to reveal further secrets, while the archaeological cleaning of the Vico Infermeria settlement area offers a glimpse into the daily life of ancient Marsala. With the prospect of transforming the entire area into an urban park, the day promises not only to reveal the past, but also to shape the future of Marsala, with a modern Corten steel staircase connecting the two areas involved in the excavations.
