The dispute Asidep lands in Rome. Tomorrow at 10.30 the unitary union representatives of the subsidiary Asi of industrial purification will be in conversation with the undersecretary of the Ministry of the Environment Claudio Barbaro who called them together to fully understand the story and acquire fundamental elements on the latest news that led the 53 workers to fold their arms again.

A strike that began on May 2nd and today, therefore, will see the plants closed and guarded for the fifth day. But the issue is no longer just at a provincial level. The letter sent by workers and RSU to local and regional institutions, in fact, has widened the focus of attention, especially for the passage where it is stated that the company, now in liquidation for a year, and the Consortium, are not providing the chemical reagents, necessary for the industrial purification process. A circumstance that has also come under the magnifying glass of Arpac which, through the general director Stefano Sorvino, has already guaranteed even greater respect than usual in the context of the usual checks carried out.

Precisely this situation stirred things up in Rome and Undersecretary Barbaro organized a meeting. Accompanying the delegation, made up of the RSU Saverio Bellofatto, Maria Mottola and Nunzio Scibelli, and some members of the Works Council, will be the secretary of Fismic, Giuseppe Zaolino.
«Having understood that the Campania Region, ASI and Asidep are doing nothing to overcome the obstacles and find a solution, explains the trade unionist, we have decided to bypass them, bringing to the Government’s attention what, also due to the possible repercussions on environment, is becoming a national case. The lack of interest in identifying a path at a local level must be communicated at the highest levels, with the hope that our interlocutor will be able to make concrete commitments”.

For Zaolino, the matter must be addressed peremptorily without waiting for the resumption of a negotiation which, in any case, seems definitively blocked on the guarantees requested by the workers: payment of the 5 back wages and maintenance of employment levels after the extraordinary redundancy fund due to company closure.
«Unfortunately, the secretary of Fismic continues, we must note with bitterness that in Irpinia it seems that the trade union dispute is only of interest to the workers. Instead, we are trying to make it also a moment of confrontation with politics. Especially for all the social and, now, also environmental implications that are foreseen. The Asidep issue is truly a national case and presupposes the need to address a fundamental problem that, evidently, many have not fully understood. Furthermore, at a local level, attention was polarized by the investigation into the Municipality of Avellino on the eve of the electoral campaign for the new elections. While the change of prefect has created a sort of institutional vacuum.”

And he adds: «But the workers cannot wait for the moves of ASI which has its accounts seized or of Asidep, one step away from bankruptcy. The workers must defend their jobs, in the face of those who, despite the dismissal procedures having not yet started, already consider them out of the present and future game. It’s unacceptable. Therefore, compared to a policy distracted by other issues, the concern for the fate of workers and the environmental impact that the stoppage of industrial purification activities will have must be shared. Solutions must be found urgently. Someone must take responsibility for what is happening.”
