Now in its 27th year, Città del Sole, published by Franco Arcidiaco & Antonella Cuzzocrea, takes part again this year in the Turin Book Fair, scheduled from 9 to 13 May.
The publishing house, which has recently exceeded the threshold of 1,450 titles in the catalogue, will exhibit its volumes at the stands of the Calabria Region, the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria and FUIS, the Italian Unitary Federation of Writers, of which it is a partner.
The Turin Salon is traditionally a precious showcase-lounge for publishers that allows them to meet readers, authors and all professionals, journalists first and foremost, who gravitate in the publishing world. Città del Sole edizioni reserves particular attention to the world of public and private libraries which preserve an invaluable book heritage. Franco Arcidiaco, who is also director of the Municipal Library of San Lorenzo (RC) highlighted the difficulties of the sector: «In Calabria there are very valid Territorial Library Systems, led by “willing and voluntary” operators, their commitment is broken every day with the almost total absence of resources necessary to maintain the structures, the dilapidation of which seriously jeopardizes the enormous heritage preserved. This year too, the Region has entrusted the management of the Stand to the BT Systems coordinated by the authoritative Giacinto Gaetano. It will be an opportunity to take stock of the difficulties faced by the individual structures”. Città del Sole editions, which last year opened its third operational headquarters in Bolzano, after the historic headquarters in Reggio Calabria and Messina, hopes for a development of the publishing market which in the South is still rather asphyxiated, in this regard Antonella Cuzzocrea commented : «On balance we are a region that produces more culture than it is able to consume, it is up to us operators, with the virtuous support of politics, to create the conditions for the development of demand».
