“Continue with the Museum at Fila”

The Bull Museum in Grugliasco

The president from the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio: “Our commitment is necessary for historical, social, cultural and ethical reasons. It would also be an important attraction for tourism.” Now we await the moves of the Municipality and Cairo: there is no time to waste.

Yesterday, the president of the Cirio Region went to Superga early in the morning to lay a bouquet of flowers in front of the plaque in memory of Grande Torino and the other victims of the plane crash, which was bringing them home after the friendly match in Lisbon with Benfica, against the embankment of the Basilica, on 4 May 1949. “It is 4 May, so what is most important to celebrate is not the Giro d’Italia, but the Grande Torino. This is why I came here to Superga so early – said Cirio -. On behalf of the Region and all the Piedmontese, to honor the merit and memory of those poor boys who were on that plane, of those champions and of all those who fell 75 years ago. Every 4th May we all become Turin, we all feel like Turin, we are all Turin.”

The Tuttosport correspondent asked him about Museum of Grande Torino and the Granata Legend (now located in Villa Claretta Assandri in via GB La Salle 87 in Grugliasco, a municipality in the province of Turin, and managed by the volunteers of the Granata historical memory) to be built at Philadelphia and not yet done 7 years after the inauguration of the sports center: “As a Region we have supported the Philadelphia Foundation since its inception… The obviously most important contribution was having donated those 3.5 million euros (previous contributions; the same amount also allocated by the Municipality of Turin; ed.) for the reconstruction of the Philadelphia. But the completion of that area has not yet been completed, it’s true. The entire third lot is still missing, i.e. the construction and creation of a museum dedicated to Grande Torino and the history of the Granata. As you know, it is a project that is absolutely close to our hearts.”

Some time agocouncillor at the Sport, Fabrizio Ricca, had declared to Tuttosport: “The Region is ready at any time to guarantee a new significant economic contribution for the construction of the museum. A museum which, moreover, is foreseen by the statute of the Philadelphia Foundation, which manages the area. Precisely for this reason, we tried to involve the president Cairo with repeated public appeals, so that we all start the new phase of the works together: let’s meet, let’s talk about it, do something… But Cairo never wanted to take up the appeal”.

“On this May 4th we renew our commitment to promoting and taking new steps dedicated to the birth of the Philadelphia museum and the completion of the works in that very important area – stated Cirio -. Committing ourselves to creating the museum in Philadelphia is a duty for historical, social, cultural and sporting reasons, including ethical ones. And I add: it would also become an attraction, an additional attraction for tourists who come to visit Turin and Piedmont. It’s a fair and useful thing, in short.”
