ADRIA (Rovigo) – Il Polyphonic Choir of the Cathedral of Adria has recently announced the 7th edition of the international liturgical music composition competition named after M° Monsignor Luigi Pieressa, organist and choirmaster of the Cathedral for almost fifty years (1944-1993).
The competition – which avails itself of the patronage of the Diocese of Adria-Rovigo, the Province of Rovigo, the Veneto Region, the “Buzzolla” Conservatory and the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music – will this year focus on a hymn in honor of the saints apostles Peter and Paul, patrons of the Cathedral and the City.
Previous editions of the Competition have seen the participation of composers from all over Italy and abroad, with winners Francisco José Carbonell Matarredona (Valencia – Spain) with the piece Hail Mary, woman of faith; Jefferson Curtaz (S. Paolo – Brazil) and Rosario Todero (Rome) ex aequo with the song Kyrie eleison; Davide Mutti (Alzano Lombardo – BG) with the song This is how God loved the world; Federico Michielan (Dolo – VE) with the song Like the scent of incense; Raffaele Magosso (Rovigo) with the song Come, Sanctifier; Alessandro Rughi (Foligno – PG) with the song To you, Lord, I lift my soul; Klaus Miehling (Stuttgart – Germany) with the song People of Zion; Vincenzo Tarantino (Santa Flavia – PA) with the song Always rejoice in the Lord; Fausto Fenice (Stresa – VB) with the song Drop from above, oh heavens.
The winning composition will be awarded the “7th international composition competition Luigi Pieressa” trophy and a prize of 500.00 euros.
The first performance, according to the promoters’ intentions, will take place on 29 June 2025, by the Cathedral Choir, on the occasion of the celebration of the feast of the patron saints.
Competitors must send their compositions by November 30th.
