“The strength of the team is decisive”

Seeded in the gold bracket of the A2 Series Championship Playoffs, the Basketball Forlì 2.015 is ready to host Elachem Vigevano for Game 1 and Game 2, scheduled for Sunday at 6pm and Tuesday at 8.30pm respectively at the Unieuro Arena. “We are finally getting ready to start the playoffs – declares Coach Antimo Martino – the most beautiful and exciting phase of the championship, after a long season where we demonstrated our value and our solidity, gratified by the first place finish and the victory of the Italian Cup. But now we know that we need to reset and start from scratch.”

Elachem Vigevano – “We are preparing to enter a series against a team like Vigevano, which will approach these playoffs with great enthusiasm, characterized by a group of Italians who put great energy on the pitch and two excellent foreigners.”

Allen injury – “Unfortunately we arrive at this with Kadeem Allen’s injury, which we cannot pretend didn’t happen, but at the same time I am sure that the team, as it has done in the difficult moments of this season, will find the energy and way to go beyond this difficulty”.

The long pause – “A break that I don’t like in an absolute sense because you get to the last day with the adrenaline of the Playoffs and then you have to put it in a corner and then take it back out after 14 days. Not a great idea. In light of Allen’s injury, selfishly, the 14-day break allowed us to work on new balances. I saw an exponentially increased concentration and attention.”

The preparatory work – “We worked a bit on everything and we would have done the same with Allen. Obviously we had to think of something new. But it wasn’t nice to find yourself at the start of the Playoffs putting aside everything you’ve done in the season, especially at the level of rotations, of dynamics and of chemistry. Now we are forced to change a lot, we will do it and I am sure that the answers will be right, trying to perform as we have always done. It won’t be easy, but we will try.”

Kadeem’s absence – “It is clear that we are losing an atypical American, very generous from a defensive point of view, and potentially we are losing something in attack. The defensive aspect will become even more important. Above all because we have set ourselves the objective of always defending the field factor. “The goal is to become solid and consistent and we want to do it with the help of the public. The fact of facing these playoffs being able to count on the field factor and the help of our fans certainly represents an important boost for us that gives us great confidence.”

The tactical changes – “I honestly believe that the key will be that each of them will have to try to best guarantee what they have done so far. I don’t think that each of them should do something more or different. This absence already creates diversity for us and we must adapt to the new dynamics. It would be a mistake if each of them thought they were doing something new and different. It will be enough to do well what they have always done while maintaining the level of consistency and reducing the levels of novelty. Maybe without Allen the ball will be more in someone’s hands ‘more but the strength of the team will be decisive. We come out as a team and not with individual choices.”

The mental state – “We’re getting there well, we haven’t done anything special, in this period the objective is to maintain a gradual state of fitness. We’ve tried to lighten the mental tension a bit by ensuring that the intensity increases in relation to the approach to the Playoffs”
