Superga 75: tribute to the immortal heroes of Grande Torino

Today, May 4th 2024 marks the 75th anniversary anniversary of the Superga tragedy which canceled the Greater Turin. What often was defined as the greatest Italian team ever, disappeared in a plane crash while returning from a friendly match in Portugal. Winners of 4 consecutive Scudetti, the Granata boys were on their way to winning the fifth tricolor when the last 4 days of the championship were missing: a title that was awarded by right, and which saw Serie A field youth teams from that moment until the end of that 1948-49 tournament.

From the legendary captain Valentino Mazzolapassing through the acrobatic goalkeeper Bacigalupo; from the bomber Gabetto to the river Loik; brothers Aldo And Dino Ballarin. Among players and Granata technicians, companions and journalists, as well as members of the crew of the Fiat G.212CP aircraft, they found their death 31 people. A huge disaster: Grande Torino embodied the myth of an invincible teambackbone of the Italian national team.

Since then the wall of Basilica of Superga in Turin, on which the aircraft crashed, became destination of remembrance and homagea place that every football fan should visit. To honor a timeless story.
