A recent survey carried out by Cgia of Mestre on the labor market in Veneto reported that in our region companies “steal” each other’s best employees. According to what was highlighted by the Association of Artisans and Small Businesses of Mestre, within a week approximately 56% of Venetian workers change jobs.

Work, companies try to retain workers as much as possible

After the advent of the pandemic, as reported by a recent survey by the CGIA of Mestre, our labor market has also undergone important transformations. Many Venetian entrepreneurs in manufacturing, construction and services, for example, have long struggled to find profiles with adequate skills. Therefore, never before have they needed to loyalty to your collaborators through the strengthening of a series of behaviors already in place for a few years, such as:

  • the payment of higher wages;
  • the transformation of fixed-term contracts into indefinite periods;
  • the possibility of allowing employees more flexible working hours;
  • the use of more innovative professional tools;
  • career advancement;
  • the implementation of benefits and corporate welfare.

This is the case in Veneto process of improving corporate well-beingplaces our region in third place nationally regarding the quality of the work. Only Lombardy and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano have a higher level than ours.

Quality of work

But the flight of employees does not stop, companies “steal” them from each other

Despite this, the flight from the permanent job continues. In fact, when the supply of labor is increasing sharply and demand is scarce, the risk that companies “steal” their best employees is very high. A practice that has been present in the Veneto for at least ten years, even if after Covid the phenomenon has undergone a sharp acceleration. According to the latest analysis on resignation from permanent employment relationships in Veneto (Veneto Lavoro, Il Sestante 1/2023, 4th quarter 2022, Labor Market Observatory, March 2023), the latter are growing.

If in 2019 in absolute value they had been 93,918In the 2022 they reached altitude 126,534 (+34.7 percent). Interesting to note that the rate of relocation occurred within 7 days from the submission of the resignation relating to 2022 (from January to December) it stood at 56%.

Compared to 2019 it increased by 4 points. Therefore, these data tell us that the number of those who have decided to leave their old job for a new one is increasing. A decision, the latter, often matured after having received a better salary offer and the provision of a less “stressful” working environment than the previous one.

Resignations, where they happen most and who they affect

Examining the age of Venetian workers who resigned in 2022, it emerges that:

  • 63% are between 30 and 54 years old,
  • 20% are under 30,
  • 17% are over 54.

THE Venetian economic sectors who suffered the highest increase in resignations compared to the pre-pandemic period (2019) were:

  • the metalworker,
  • retail trade,
  • the advanced tertiary sector,
  • healthcare
  • public administration to a more limited extent than the others.
