The most troubled season of recent years for Civitavecchia comes to an end. The last day of Eccellenza will be played tomorrow with the Nerazzurri who will be on stage at 11am on the Astrea pitch. Match totally irrelevant for Raffaele Scudieri’s eleven already confident of fifth place in the standings while Astrea must win at all costs to have the chance to increase the points on Audace to 8 and avoid having to play the playouts.
It is very likely that tomorrow the player who has played the least this season will be on the pitch for Civitavecchia. The match against Astrea will be the last Nerazzurri bench for Raffaele Scudieri who has already announced that he will not coach Civitavecchia next season and therefore the Nerazzurri club’s main attention is focused on the search for the next coach. In reality it seems that the choice is practically made and leads to the return of Massimo Castagnari. Last week we talked about a three-way race but Scudieri eliminated himself and the Stefano Manelli suggestion seems to have remained unchanged. There is no official announcement yet but unless there is sensational and unexpected news Castagnari, who this season led FC Viterbo from which he resigned a few days ago, will coach Civitavecchia in the 2024-2025 season. A return which for him also feels like revenge because two years ago the Nerazzurri club decided not to continue the marriage with Castagnari despite the victory in the regional phase of the Italian Cup of Excellence, at the end of a season which had left some regrets for the championship but even in the eyes the vision of a team that played very well.
