Two municipalities in the province of Benevento, Sant’Agata de’ Goti and Baselice, will benefit from funds from the Ministry for the Environment and Energy Security intended for hydrogeological risk mitigation interventions. An allocation of approximately 12 million euros which it will be used for consolidation interventions on ridges and slopes. This was announced by Senator Domenico Matera who underlined that these are loans for which the investigation phase is now underway.

«The Campania Region, at the express request of the Ministry of the Environment on 16 February 2024, announced last 30 April – explained the parliamentarian of Fratelli d’Italia – the interventions for the mitigation of the hydrogeological risk to be financed in Campania with funds of the Ministry for Planning 2024. The province of Benevento, if the investigation is completed successfully, will also benefit from these resources”.
To the Municipality of Sant’Agata de’ Goti, the parliamentarian announced, 7.9 million euros will go towards the “Recovery of the historic center and elimination of impending dangers due to ongoing landslides and instability” project.

A well-known problem concerns the ancient village of Santa Gaga, built on a tufaceous cliff subject to landslides and mudslides. Over the years there have been numerous critical issues including orders for the clearance or closure of road sections and several times interventions have been made with projects to reduce hydrogeological risk. The latest work, in chronological order, for the safety of the Reullo ridge was completed in 2017.
To the Municipality of Baselice, however, will receive 3.5 million euros for the «hydrogeological arrangement and consolidation of the slope downstream of the sports field» works. But Senator Matera’s hope is that other interventions in the province of Benevento can be included in the programming of the residual fund for the 2024 year – there are 1.9 million euros at stake – and therefore benefit from ministerial resources.

«Once again – underlined Matera – this government shows attention to the territory of the South and to its safety. In addition to the regional structure for the protection of the soil, there is an obligation to thank the government and in particular the Ministry of the Environment which, once again, places the right attention on the interventions necessary to eliminate and reduce the hydrogeological risk of the regional territory”. The senator of the Brothers of Italy, who for years administered the mayor Municipality of Bucciano, therefore looks at the institutional synergies to be built in the area. «There is still a lot to do – he adds – but we are sure that with the right institutional synergy between the various actors in the field, i.e. municipalities, region, Basin Authority and competent Ministry, we will be able to improve and make our territories more safe ».
