CARPI – An entire day for women to talk about preparation for labor, childbirth, breastfeeding and baby care and much more. It was organized by the midwives of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department of the Ramazzini Hospital in Carpi on Sunday 5 May on the occasion of International Midwifery Day.

Starting from 10am, in the Courtyard of Honor of Palazzo Pio in Carpi, meetings, workshops, readings, but also games, face painting, body painting and much more for children, expectant mothers, mothers and fathers.

The initiative sees the collaboration of various local bodies and associations, such as the Center for Families, Il Castello dei Ragazzi – Il Falco Magico Library, UDI, Anti-Violence Centre, AMO and GAAM.

An important event to delve deeper into the role of this very important professional figure: midwives are in fact close to women and families in a widespread manner throughout the provincial territory, in hospital, consultancy and home services. They take care of the person in many areas and aspects of life, from childhood to adolescence, from pregnancy to childbirth support and postpartum, including breastfeeding and parenting support. They deal with health promotion in schools and community services, prevention of tumors of the female sexual sphere, menopause support, and are present in all situations of fragility that can occur during the birth process.

International Midwife Day 2024 has climate change as its theme, highlighted in the claim “Midwives, a vital solution for the climate”.

“Our planet – explains the National Federation of Orders of the Midwifery Profession in a note – is experiencing more and more heat waves, more floods and more natural disasters, with a significant impact on the health of women and children. Putting resources and effort into addressing the climate crisis is a matter of extreme urgency. Midwives represent a vital solution to adapt healthcare systems to climate change and reduce carbon emissions overall. Midwives provide safe and environmentally sustainable health services, help communities adapt to climate change and are first responders during climate disasters.”
