“My husband mistreats me.” And the woman runs away with the parish priest: the matter ends up in court

She had accused her husband of mistreating her and beaten up for years, within the home. And thus she would have motivated the decision to leave him, abandoning the marital home and the three minor children she had with the man to escape with the parish priest of the country. A story with surreal features, which almost seems to be taken from a film, but which instead comes from the province of Salerno and which in the last few hours has seen the husband of the 30-year-old woman protagonist of this story end up in court. According to what the Campania press reports today, it all started in recent weeks in Oliveto Citra, a town of around 3 thousand inhabitants located in the Salerno hinterland. Taking advantage of the absence of her spouse, who was busy on a business trip to Trentino, the thirty-year-old would have fled the marital home to freely live the romantic relationship she would have had with the parish priest.

The thirty-year-old originally from Battipaglia apparently disappeared for a few days, only to then justify her escape as a necessity to escape the violence from her husband. When she told her, the man allegedly put his hands on her several times, beating her and threatening her: after years of harassment, she was thus able to get her life back in hand thanks to the support of the priest. Based on these accusations, the husband then ended up in process. And the verdict was in his favour, as the Avellino court ruled in the last few hours that there was no place to proceed. According to the judge, no certain element had essentially emerged to confirm the reported violence. “A sentence that restores serenity to my client, who for months was the victim of a real nightmare – the comment of the accused’s lawyer, reported by the online site Today – the accusations proved to be unfounded, demonstrating that we must have faith in justice.”

A story that may not have ended, however, given that the alleged victim has expressed his intention to appeal. Also because the couple could meet in court for a parallel case: her husband has apparently sued her for abandoning the marital home. “I am disappointed and saddened by the sentence of the Avellino court judge. I produced the audio of the threats of my ex-husband. They didn’t believe me. I will go on. I will ask for justice in the second degree. And I hope that all women victims of violence do the same – the woman told the local newspaper The city – I left home because my husband was violent. He threatened me with death for the most banal things. Even for a glass that fell to the floor and broke, not just out of jealousy.

Years ago he put his hands around my neck to strangle me.”
