SIDERNO (REGGIO CALABRIA) – A large fire broke out this evening inside a warehouse located in Dromo in Siderno Marina. The flames, the causes of which are yet to be ascertained, engulfed a three-storey building, causing extensive damage to the structure. It was therefore necessary to evacuate a resident family. The safety operations by the firefighters are currently still underway.

At approximately 6.30pm today, 3 May 2024, the Siderno Fire Brigade team, coordinated by Team Leader Antonino Galì, was alerted to put out the fire. Having responded to the scene with two vehicles, a fire engine and a tanker, the firefighters are working tirelessly to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby homes.

The intervention, which is currently still underway, was particularly challenging due to the presence of numerous lithium batteries inside the depot. The material is, in fact, located on the ground floor of the building which was occupied by a warehouse where numerous batteries were kept.
Siderno’s family who lived in the building where the fire started was evacuated. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The damage to the structure is extensive and it is estimated that the shutdown and safety operations will continue throughout the night.
