Second university canteen in Siena: meeting in the Tuscany Region

The meeting in the Tuscany Region on the issue of the second university canteen in Siena took place yesterday, Thursday 2 May. Present were the president of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, the two rectors of the Sienese universities, the mayor and the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Siena and the president of the regional company for the right to university education.

The issue relating to the closure of the university canteen in via Sallustio Bandini, which occurred in 2021, was addressed. Now the city makes only the Sant’Agata canteen available in the historic center, which is not adequate to guarantee the service to approximately 20 thousand students of UniSi and UniStraSi.

The president of the Tuscany Region confirmed to the local representatives present that Siena will remain allocated the 4 million euros, set aside in the budget, foreseen for the restoration of the canteen in via Sallustio Bandini, which cannot be carried out for technical-structural reasons.

The proceeds from the sale of the property in via Sallustio Bandini, at the time valued at around 3.5 million euros, will also be allocated to the Sienese area, given that the new canteen will not be able to be built in the structure.

For the construction of the second canteen, various buildings in the historic center were taken into consideration and the president of the Tuscany Region gave a mandate to the company for the right to university study to develop, in agreement with the Municipality of Siena, operational proposals in quick times.
