“This is to point out that, on the deadline for the approval of the final account for the 2023 financial year (30 April), the financial statement has not yet been approved by the municipal council. It is also superfluous to point out that the lack of approval even by the executive body within the legal terms of the Municipality’s report clearly demonstrates the already well-known economic-financial difficulties in which the Institution finds itself”. Thus begins the letter signed by Roberto Celano, minority city councilor and provincial coordinator of Forza Italia Salerno.

The focus is on the failure to approve the budget instrument, which has not even been examined by the council. In case of non-compliance, the Consolidated Law on Local Authorities provides for the appointment of a prefectural commissioner, Celano recalled.

The letter was addressed to the Court of Auditors of Campania: “The concern for the “poor” conditions in which the Municipality of Salerno finds itself, the absence of at least acceptable services, the exaggerated taxation, the serious errors highlighted (and partially recognized ) when preparing the 2022 final account and the 2024/2026 budget forecast, an extraordinary control activity would be required by all the institutions entrusted to it with specific inspections, also in order to avoid consequences that can no longer be remedied for the institution “, concludes Celano.
