The Liguria Region, on the occasion of the ‘Regional Local Police Day’, rewarded local police officers who distinguished themselves for special merits during 2023.
The delivery ceremony, which was attended by the president of the Liguria Region, the president of the regional council and the Councilor for Security of the Liguria Region, was preceded in Piazza De Ferrari by the passing in review of the guard of honor of the police force of Genoa and the flags of the local police forces of the provincial capital municipalities.
“Today is an important day, which celebrates the fundamental work that the police forces do for our communities, because security in our cities is preparatory to growth, development and civil coexistence – explains the president of the Liguria Region -. I believe that the integration between the various bodies and the work done in recent years to build a 360-degree security system, ranging from video surveillance to joint patrols, is of great importance, even if it is often taken for granted.”
“To remember the value of our officers in guaranteeing urban safety and the decorum of our cities, the Liguria Region established the ‘Regional Local Police Day’ in 2018. An important moment, not only to thank those who distinguished themselves most during the year, but also to consolidate the sense of belonging with the citizens – underlines the regional councilor for Security – We recently presented the report of the Regional Observatory on Security with which we analyzed the statistical information relating to the commission of crimes and their characteristics and dynamics over time. Elements that must help us, on the one hand, to monitor the situation also in consideration of the differences between urban centers and the hinterland, where the police are considered an indispensable social protection; on the other, to put the personnel on duty in the best possible conditions. Furthermore, from this year – adds the councilor – we have decided to have the delivery of praise to those agents who have been able to guarantee the rights of the most vulnerable converge within the same ceremony. A further sign of attention towards those who, with their work, allow the less fortunate to live on an equal footing every day.”
“An important day to enhance the work of women and men of the Local Police, who are daily involved in city safety, not only as traffic policemen, but as real agents – states the president of the regional council –. In this sense, today’s occasion is appropriate to reiterate, on the one hand, the need to change the framework law of 1986, which is still too far behind at a national level, and on the other the hope that more and more municipalities will join the supply of tasers, successfully tested in La Spezia”.
Honors – For the local police of Savona, the deputy commander Francesco Ferba, the deputy commander Matteo Lai and the agent Silvia Venturino were awarded for having brought to light a murky affair involving an elderly person, incapable of understanding and wanting, the object of the attention of two women who, behind the appearance of friendship and solidarity, hid selfish and profiteering aims. The actions of the operators were characterized by a particular sagacity in knowing how to grasp investigative ideas from apparently banal situations.
Included this year, as part of the Regional Day of the Local Police, are the praises – decided by the Regional Handicap Council established with regional law 19/1994 – in favor of the Local Police officers who have distinguished themselves in the protection of the rights of disabled people , in particular by ensuring the correct use of the Cude (Unified European Disabled Mark), on dedicated parking spaces, on pedestrian crossings and, more generally, on the structures that guarantee the mobility of disabled people.
