STATEMENTS

Mayor Carlo Masci wanted to greet and thank those present for their daily commitment to social issues, a commitment that he particularly appreciates as mayor and also because he has known this reality up close and personal for many years.

Casto Di Bonaventura underlined the importance of the project: “To adequately care for the disabled person, in addition to the necessary love for them, non-negligible knowledge and skills are also required. Accompanying caregivers in a well-structured training program seemed to us to be of great relevance and importance for the entire society”.

“The organization of the day, work, social and family life projects”, explains Giusy Di Bari, “must be reorganized on the patient so that he receives care and assistance, unfortunately forgetting the needs of the caregiver”.

“The project”, adds Vittorio Morganti, “meets the needs of caregivers who are forced, due to the pathology of their loved one, to make gradual or sudden changes in their daily habits”.

Lorenzo D’Andrea concludes: “We want to experiment with a new action that can be included in the definition of social programming lines: training in care work and the recognition of acquired skills.”

“Care for our loved ones,” said Councilor Di Nisio, “requires considerable commitment, a great expenditure of strength on a physical, time and emotional level but caregivers are not always trained and ready to carry out this task. very hard, albeit full of love for the people who are cared for. Those in need should never be left alone, this is the slogan of my department, and in recent years we have transformed it into concrete facts. Today’s initiative is an example of this: through this course it is possible to accompany caregivers in a training course that represents support for them but also for the people they assist, who benefit indirectly from it. Through qualified teachers, timely and valuable information is given, in the hope of making a demanding and often uphill activity less burdensome.”

The project Learn to be a caregiver it is a 52-hour journey of activities aimed at 30 family caregivers. The training is entrusted to twelve teachers, from the neurologist to the speech therapist and psychologist, through to the posturologist and Red Cross operators.

The intention is to develop technical skills and contribute to the emotional growth of caregivers, improve their information and orientation capacity, strengthen the collaborative relationship between social, health and volunteering services.
