Interporto Padova at the “Galileo- Festival of Science and Innovation”

Interporto Padova participates in the “Galileo-Festival of Science and Innovation” underway in Padua until Sunday 5 May. The director Roberto Tosetto (in the photo with the president of the Cariparo Foundation Gilberto Muraro and the rector of the University of Padua Daniela Mapelli) illustrated the innovative applications that have made it possible to increase the productivity and performance of the intermodal terminal. Interporto has not “invented” new technologies, but has applied existing digitalisation processes and technological innovations to logistics in an innovative way. However, a complex and detailed path whose description captured the attention of a public very interested in scientific and technological innovations but with little knowledge in the field of logistics. Artificial intelligence applications, for example, make it possible to establish which is the best place to store a container among the tens of thousands present in the terminal, based on the departure date and destination, to avoid any unnecessary handling. It is intuitive that no terminal operator, no matter how expert or mathematically minded, could do this. Furthermore, the digitization of documents and procedures has made it possible to automate the road gates leading to and from the terminal with the result that a truck loading and unloading cycle now takes less than half an hour. A significant increase in productivity for Interporto but also for hauliers who are thus able to double the number of daily trips. These are just two of the numerous actions implemented and underway by Interporto Padova.
