by Cristian Fiorentino – On the occasion of the “Green Week” of “Ambiente Mare Italia” also the “Italian Naval League”, delegation of Mirto Crosia, the “Circolo Legambiente” of Corigliano-Rossano and Fidapa, section of Rossano-Corigliano, joined the event named “Every drop counts. A sea of small actions to give strength to the planet”. Event held on the Sybarite coast of the Alto Jonio Cosentino and in particular on the river delta of the Crati river. The president of Mirto Crosia’s “Lega Navale”, Jimmy Fusaro, former senior inspector of the State Police, presented a seized and subsequently confiscated vessel to a criminal association dedicated to the illegal trafficking of migrants. «The vessel renamed “Eleos” was entrusted by the competent judicial authority (Locri court), so as to authorize its use, both for the purpose of monitoring the level of legality in the waters where it is placed and, shortly, also for social recovery projects and external criminal enforcement to be carried out with the competent offices”.
Furthermore, during the day, an inspection was carried out on the beach at the mouth of the Crati river, to verify the presence of waste. Many wastes were collected and analyzed in order to detect the percentages and respective types. In one hour, the two operators collected 6.84 kg of which 1.428 kg of medical waste, 0.37 kg of plastic pods and 0.201 kg of shotgun shells. “It should be underlined that part of the materials found – it is specified in the report – appear to be special waste, which should not be found in sites like the one under scrutiny, but should be disposed of, or disposed of in compliance with current legislation.”
