A new park of over 41 thousand square meters will soon be built in Sesto San Giovanni in the area of former Parpaglion quarryto. The news comes on the sidelines of the signing of an important agreement signed on Monday 22 April 2024 regarding the redevelopment of the former Parpagliona quarry, the result of a long and complex process that lasted almost four years but which, to be honest, has its roots in more than twenty years of dialogue between the municipality and the company that owns the site.

The company, after having presented a plan to expand the non-hazardous waste recovery area to the Metropolitan City, has undertaken a series of environmental redevelopment interventions in the portion of the former Parpagliona quarry.
Furthermore, among the planned interventions, there is the free transfer to the municipality of Sesto San Giovanni of a portion of territory of over 41 thousand square meters located between the Lambro and the Peduncolo of the ring road within the PLIS Parco Media Valle Lambro.

“The area, before being sold, will be reclaimed and regenerated as a park with the creation of cycle and pedestrian paths in continuity, among other things, with the cycle path of Via Manin – explains the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni, Roberto Di Stefano – In this way, by joining the Naviglio della Martesana track, in practice, a connection is created between Sesto San Giovanni, Milan, Cologno Monzese up to Trezzo sull’Adda”.
Thanks to the expansion of the recovery area, with the work in the former Falck areas, much of the non-hazardous waste generated on construction sites will be able to be transformed entirely on site, encouraging the development of a virtuous circular economy in the area.
