Speaking to ilovepalermocalcio.com, Rino Foschi, former Palermo sporting director, had his say on the difficult moment experienced by the Rosanero in the championship.

What do you think of the Rosanero’s performance against Spezia and Mignani’s arrival?

«About the bad performance, I’m sorry. My thought is simply that I would have kept Corini. For the moment Mignani hasn’t shown anything better. For me, I had to trust Corini and the group. Eugenio certainly had to work on the group which had fallen apart a bit. If he depended on me I would call him back tomorrow morning, to finish this championship and to put together something that is crumbling. For me it was the wrong dismissal.”

Would it be a defeat to remain in Serie B again this year?

«We only need to think about this moment, we need to think about doing the best we can. There is still a chance to do well. I repeat, for me, Corini had a moment of suffering but it didn’t need to be changed. Now everything is more difficult. The ranking has become longer, there are much stronger teams like Como. It’s useless to talk too much. The only possibility to do well was to stay close to Corini and help him, the rest will be seen.”

Does Palermo’s staffing level respect the position it has at the moment?

«No, he had to do something more. But not to the point of sacking the coach. Eugenio certainly lost some points, but there were very specific reasons. For me the point was to stay close to him and give him a hand while also letting him make mistakes in something. For me the personnel is of a team that can fight for Serie A. Then finishing fourth or third I don’t know, but the team is not a bad team, it simply didn’t give what it had to give.”

Can the Rosanero reach the end of the play-offs?

«I don’t know, I think so. We’re in bad shape right now. There are two more games, so we’ll see what happens. Certainly if Palermo is the same as yesterday, everything becomes more difficult. However, making the play-offs as 6th or 4th in the standings means nothing if this is Palermo. I liked Corini’s Palermo more when they were doing well, there’s no point in beating around the bush. For me, I repeat, it was a mistake to fire Corini.”

The latest performances with Corini on the bench, however, were not very far from the performance seen at the “Picco”…

«Corini had ups and downs and needed help because something wasn’t right in the locker room. Most likely there was something to fix with him inside. We reached the end of the championship and then we took stock. For me he was the only coach who had the chance to have at least a better championship finish. Certainly much better than the current coach who doesn’t know anyone and who hasn’t done much.”
