The Lodge asks Rome for funds to monitor hot zones and a machine that identifies those without documents

The fight against Brescia’s “bad nightlife” also involves Rome: la Loggia gave the green light to the request for financing of 518 thousand euros for the three-year period 2024-26 within the Urban Security Fund of the Ministry of the Interior and that of the Economy with the aim of counteract the phenomena of incivility linked to nightlife. There are two lines of financing from which the Castelletti Council intends to draw: the first, with a three-year duration, has as its object the monitoring of youth gathering areas «to prevent and combat the phenomenon of bad nightlife». Which primarily affects the neighborhood Carmine, already at the center of an experiment that started last December (and for which 100 thousand euros were budgeted) with the presence of around ten stewards and with a first activation of the social mapping service entrusted to the Il Calabrone coop.

Further interventions, according to the plan presented by the Councilor for Commerce Andrea Poli, will affect Piazza Vittoria and Piazzale Arnaldo, other “hot” places in the city: the funding – of 150 thousand euros for each year – would be intended foractivation of monitoring services in the three nightlife areas to “contain its negative effects”. The planned actions follow those already started in Carmine, which could be extended to the other two areas of the city centre. Starting from the stewarding service, which consists «of a constant and organized monitoring service by qualified, appropriately trained stewards, who are entrusted with the implementation of monitoring activities and the dissemination of information on the correct behavior to be followed to guarantee civil social coexistence”, combined with a socio-cultural mediation service for managing relationships with visitors.

The second funding request (lasting two years) concerns the purchase of an identification and photo-signalling machine to be allocated to the local police, for an annual amount of approximately 34 thousand euros. The machine, already supplied to some police forces, allows the identification of people stopped during control activities who are unable to demonstrate their identity, without having to go to the police headquarters for the ritual operations. While the purchase of the machinery currently appears to be tied to the arrival of funds from Rome, as far as nightlife is concerned the Loggia intends to continue to combat the “bad nightlife”. As the season opens, it will be possible to measure the effectiveness of the experimentation started.
