2/5/2024 – The management of the ASL of Reggio Emilia has filed a complaint with the Carabinieri against the exponents of the Aq16 social center, for the occupation of the former clinics in via Monte San Michele in Reggio Emilia. The Local Health Authority appeals to the occupants, who entered the building on May 1st to foil “a speculative plan”, to immediately leave the former health clinics which “are not in safe conditions”, without electricity and water and therefore unusable.
The area of Via Monte San Michele – which connects the skyscraper to the Police Headquarters complex – is patrolled by the police, who today also intervened in force at the station and in Piazzale Marconi with police, carabinieri and local patrols.
The former health clinics, closed for some time, are for sale and under public auction, an auction in which the activists of Aq16 – the now historic social center in via Fratelli Manfredi which has grown over 30 years under the wing of the institutional left – say they want to participate with their offer.
In a statement released today, the management of the ASL Irccs of Reggio Emilia recalls that “the building was put up for sale by public auction” and that the proceeds will contribute to the financing to realize the MIRE pavilioni.e. the new pediatric hospital of Santa Maria Nuova, work on which is underway.
The property in via Monte San Michele – as foreseen by the Pru, Reggio Emilia’s urban recovery plan – is destined “to become a multifunctional area, residential, also affiliatedservices and the tertiary sector”.
“The services that were housed in Via Monte San Michele” have all been relocated to community houses, serving the citizens”, explains the Ausl management.
“Their transfer became necessary because the building in via Monte San Michele needed significant maintenance interventions to guarantee adequate safety standards for the workers and citizens who frequented it. Please note that the community houses in the Municipality of Reggio Emilia are progressively increasing, in addition to the North Community House and the expansion of the West, the East Community House and the Community House which will be located in the former CPA building will be built in Viale Risorgimento”
For these reasons the Company “which filed a complaint regarding the employment with the Carabinieri of Reggio Emilia, appeals for the locals to be released immediatelynot being currently in safe conditions (among other things without water and electricity and therefore completely unusable)”.
Stop selling off public assets to income – the activists for “the right to the city” proclaim in turn – Let’s take away the space for financial speculation and let’s return them to the city to imagine and practice together new forms of social living in Reggio Emilia”.
Certainly, as long as it remains occupied the building cannot be sold at auction.
