The technique it always repeats the same and, unfortunately, continues to work: it is that of the fake policeman who calls elderly people to their homes, posing as a soldier or, in other cases, even as a lawyer, and who invites the victims to pay to have him released from prison a family member, often a child allegedly involved in an accident.
The criminals thus manage to deceive lonely subjects, fragilewhich fall in the trap handing him over Cash, jewelssometimes even their own wedding rings.
This time however i policemen have arrived for realbut not in the homes of the victims but rather in those of the alleged scammers. And from Lamezia Terme they arrived as far as Campania, in particular in Bridgesin the province of Napleswhere three people accused of scams against the elderly were handcuffed.
The investigationconducted with technical-IT investigations, but also with traditional observation, control and shadowing activities, suggests that the three are responsible for as many facts occurred in December 2023: this is a scam suffered by a 93 years old to Besnatein the province of Varese, in Lombardy, from which approximately 15 thousand euros; and two others attempted to Gioia Tauro (in Reggio Emilia) e Lamezia Terme (in the Catanzaro area), to the detriment of the same number over seventyand which would have profited the criminals, if carried out, further 25 thousand euros.
In particularthe investigation got underway from arrest in flagrante delictoin Lamezia, of two peopleamong the recipients of today’s precautionary measures.
Thanks to meticulous investigative activity, the military managed to collect those they believe to be gods serious and detailed elements against the accused accomplices of the two arrested.
THE ROLES
The investigators therefore claim to have outlined a punctual way of acting finalized to the implementation of scamsand to have also determined the organizational chart of the alleged criminal groupwhich was divided into roles: there were for example i “telephone operators”, in charge of calling the designated victim posing as the Carabinieri, suggesting the arrest of a relative and requesting the money and gold as bail.
Then there were the “logistical-operational organizers”, who had the task of organizing the movements of the accomplices by indicating the places to go, departure times and means of transport to use, as well as providing driving directions and updates on the progress of the telephone calls aimed at luring the victims.
Finally, the “tax collectors”, whose role, posing as Carabinieri or lawyers, consisted of going to the homes of the unfortunate people to have the money and valuables delivered to them.
THE INVESTIGATION
The investigation carried out between the month of December 2023 and the February this yearhe further provided important elements of analysisfavoring operational osmosis within the Provincial Command of the Catanzaro Force, with the implementation of information, preventive and repressive activities thanks to which recorded a drastic decrease of scams targeting the elderly precisely with the technique of the fake Carabiniere.
