Central New York motorcyclist dies after colliding with car in Fabius

Fabius, NY — A Madison County motorcyclist died Wednesday night after colliding with a car he was attempting to pass into the village of Fabius, troopers said.

Daniel T. Ankers, 59, of New Woodstock, died after his motorcycle hit a car he attempted to pass on Route 80 (Main Street) in the village, Jennifer L. Jiron, a spokesperson for the State Police, said in a news release Thursday.

Ankers was riding his 2017 Harley Davidson behind a 2020 Ford Escape driven by Hollie J. Haaf, 46, around 9:17 pm, Jiron said. Both were traveling east on Route 80 when they approached Ridge Road.

Ankers collided with the side of Haaf’s car as he tried to pass her while she was making a left turn, Jiron said. Ankers flew from the motorcycle when he hit the car, she said.

Ankers was taken to Upstate University Hospital and died at 10:34 pm, she said.

Haaf, of Manlius, was treated for an abrasion on her arm, she said.

The crash is still under investigation by state police.

The crash closed Route 80 for about 5 hours.
