BRINDISI – The new wing of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department is ready, on the ninth floor of the Perrino hospital, with a dedicated operating room and three labor rooms where water births, painless births and free-position births can also be carried out.

The update on the status of the works was provided this morning by the director of the department, Massimo Stomati, during an inspection with the general director, Maurizio De Nuccio, the director of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, Massimo Calò, the coordinator of Obstetrics, Giovanna Civino, and a delegation from the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Municipality of Brindisi.

The interventions were carried out in compliance with ministerial guidelines for a second level centre: in addition to enhancing the quality of care, the work carried out will allow women to freely choose the way in which they bring their children into the world. Furthermore, the operating room adjacent to the three labor rooms will be able to guarantee the performance of a cesarean section in a very short time, improving patient safety.

The president of the Commission for Equal Opportunities, Anna Maria Calabrese, and the commissioners Anna Cavaliere and Tea Sisto are satisfied, who consistently in recent years, together with the other components, have urged discussion with the various administrations of the ASL Brindisi on some critical issues in assistance to women in our province, with particular reference to childbirth analgesia.

The start of activities in the new block is expected after obtaining regional accreditation. The acquisition of furnishings is currently underway and staff training is being planned.
