A super Porto Circuit is born

CREMONA – A race that expresses the territory in an international context. The identity of the 57th edition of Port Circuit was revealed in the consultation room of the town hall. On Sunday, cycling returns as the protagonist in Cremona with the most awaited race, the challenge dedicated to the Elite and Under 23s which is ready to provide emotions on a journey between tradition and novelty. A commitment that sees runners from all over the world as protagonists, determined to write their names in the roll of honor of the classic event for sprinters.

The last one to have succeeded was Matthias Pinazzi, who a year ago gave Arvedi Cycling the satisfaction of the joy of winning their home race. There are one hundred and eighty kilometers to be experienced, including tactics and surprises to write another fascinating page in the history of this event.

«Last edition we reached our peak – he explained Rossano Grazioli, president of the Cc Cremonese 1891 – but every year we try to improve and also for Sunday we have brought something new within the organization, this time from a logistical point of view: the secretariat of the event will in fact be at the Colonie Padane, which is already was an important point of reference for the Italian cyclocross championship organized in January. From a competitive point of view, last May there was great satisfaction with Pinazzi’s victory and also in this edition we will be fighting for the final success. Sunday will be a splendid day of sport.”

A journey into tradition, with illustrious signatures throughout its history. Stephen Pedrinazzi, current president of the Lombardy Cycling Federation, achieved third place in 1984, but today the Porto Circuit is seen above all through the eye of the sports director: «It is a race that proudly raises the level of the Lombardy committee’s activity. In a changing cycling world, it is important to grasp the ability of the event to be in continuous evolution, to be able to adapt to the current development of our sport, to be international, while remaining faithful to tradition.”

Among the important numbers of Sunday’s edition was Antonio Pegoiani, organization director, who wanted to underline above all the great work in the realization of the event and an «professionalism that is increasingly present in the organizational machine of the Porto Circuit. A race that sees 31 teams at the start, of which 13 continental, with 5 foreign, 1 professional and 17 club teams, with 5 foreign. The race remains faithful to its tradition in the route and is for sprinters: the feedback we have on the requests from the companies to be at the start is an important indication of the value of the race. It is for the city of Cremona, but also for the entire cycling movement.”
