The song by the artist from Foggia

“Funk & Soul was born from the need to shake up the city and rebel against those who speak badly of it without ever having experienced it”.

THE MENTALITY’. It couldn’t be clearer than Vi Rey, a singer from Foggia who, on the occasion of the May Day concert held in Parco San Felice, presented the public with a single entirely dedicated to his city. “Funk & Soul – title of the song – is also an admission of guilt, because we are all guilty of a certain mentality”.

A REBIRTH. In reality, through very short launch “teasers”, in recent weeks Vi Rey had already made people savor her Funk & Soul on the social pages, moreover with tasty video clips shot in some historic locations of the city, from the Rosati market to the via Manfredonia overpass, up to the historic center. The message of the piece is all in the chorus, in which it says: “there’s no fujit, there’s no fujit from Foggia, but who will save her?” A concept that Vi Rey is keen to reiterate: “all together we can be the architects of a great rebirth, but only if we have the courage to stay, without looking the other way if something doesn’t work”.

DYING FOR MONEY. “A phrase from the song that I like to quote – continues the singer – is ‘here, dying for Money is better than dying of hunger’: it encapsulates a situation that often occurs among young people from difficult neighbourhoods, who, in order to bring bread to home they are forced to work in precarious, unsafe conditions. Or in some cases to join criminal organizations where the only ways out are prison or death.”

IN THE FOLLOWING OF JAMES BROWN. A funky-soul-pop song that blends language and dialect, with a great impact, with horns and a rhythm that harks back to the greats of the genre, above all the legendary James Brown. Produced by Vi Rey himself – born Vito Coccia – who together with Angelo Caponi is also an arranger, the song uses the following line-up: Fabio Pompilio on drums; Stefano Nardella on guitar; Stefano Valenza on bass; Angelo Caponi on Synth Keyboards; Emanuele Acucella on Tenor Sax; Maurizio Montepeloso on Alto Sax; Angelo Verziera on Trumpet, with backing vocals by Rossella Coccia and Carlo Baldassini. The single was recorded at Angelo De Cosimo’s Clab Studio (link to the video published on social media)
