Public debate on the doubling of the railway, the mayor and the managing councilor Ginefra: “The phases of discussion are beginning. We will try to report the requests of the Municipalities and citizens to alleviate the impact of the work”
The first phase of the public debate on the new lots of the project to double the Rome-Pescara railway began this afternoon. Today an online appointment with a webinar on the project, in which the mayor Diego Ferrara and the president of the special council commission for the railway Vincenzo Ginefra took part remotely, with thematic delegation.
“At this first appointment we proposed again what we laboriously tried to carry forward also in the public debate phases last year with RFI, that is, the attempt of the Municipality of Chieti with the citizens of Brecciarola and Manoppello gathered by the COMFERR Committee to determine and to divert the path of RFI’s original project – so the mayor and president Ginefra -. Our vision does not change, because the current project determines a modification of the anthropization of both Brecciarola and Manoppello. Instead, with the movement of the railway northwards, so that it moves away from population centers and closer to the interport, private residences and economic and commercial activities would not be affected, nor would they have to move with enormous economic and social costs.
Another part of the railway is the one that will affect the areas of San Martino and Chieti Scalo, a section for which we ask for its burial, also for anthropological reasons of our villages, proposing the same request that seems to have been granted, at least on paper, to San Giovanni Teatino, therefore we ask for the burial of a stretch which is not considerable, but would save the current anthropisation of the territory.
We will have three video conferences and two meetings are scheduled for May 16th: a technical one at Barbella, on the morning of May 16th between the Municipality, RFI and Region, in the afternoon of that same day, however, we will go to Brecciarola in a venue for a meeting at which citizens will also be admitted. For our part, the mobilization for a discussion that leads to a shared and better project remains, as institutions we can only be on the side of the citizens and of the dialogue, having to balance the importance of a project such as the railway doubling, with the legitimate and indispensable protection of the territory which already has a vocation and an ongoing development model”.
