Municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena – OPEN MONUMENTS, MANY OPEN SITES BUT ALSO SEVERAL COLLATERAL INITIATIVES
Descriptive text here

Everything is ready in Quartu for the appointment with Open Monuments, scheduled in the city on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May, in the first review weekend of the 2024 edition, entitled ‘Space for dreams’. There are 26 historical-archaeological sites open for the occasion; but the visit to the structures and buildings that have characterized the city’s past, and in some cases also the present, will not be the only opportunity to enjoy some time in the name of culture.

In fact, there are many events scheduled to accompany the two-day Quartese event dedicated to cultural tourism. From exhibitions to concerts, from dances to live painting, from games to literature: a long list of activities not to stop at the mere visit of the historical-archaeological sites but to make the days fully engaging and experience the city in the round.

Saturday 4th, starting from 4pm, organized by the Assoraider Scouts, scheduled songs, games and demonstrations of scout techniques in the square of the Sacred Heart church. Various shows are also planned by the Civic School of Music: at the Ex Montegranatico, again from 4.00 pm concerts of modern music, from the modern singing of Noemi Balloi to the electric guitar of Giacomo Deiana, up to the drums and percussions of Emanuele Pusceddu and Marco Puddu ; at the same time in the church of Santa Maria di Cepola piano concerts with Melania Bertolo’s classes and in the small church of Bonaria – Ex Oratorio delle Anime classical guitar with Davide Mocci’s class. But on Sunday too there will be a wide choice: from 10.30am at the Ex Montegranatico concerts of baroque singing by the class of Ettore Agati, and then of modern singing and piano by the classes of M. Marta Medas, Francesca Piroddi, M. Silvia Cadevano and Roberto Zonca ; in the church of S. Efisio from 4.30 pm violin concerts by the classes of Anna Floris and classical guitar by Mirella Piras.

Author’s music also at the former Carabinieri barracks in via Roma: on Saturday at 5pm there is a concert by the choir of the University of the Third Age. And on Sunday morning at 10, in the internal courtyard of the central library in via Dante, there will be an instrumental concert by the music classes of the Istituto Comprensivo 1 ‘Porcu Satta’. Music will be performed on the flute, piano, percussion and guitar based on classical and modern repertoire from various eras.

The University of the Third Age also offers moments dedicated to Sardinian dance. Saturday 4th starting from 11am in Sa Dom’e Farra, with the group from Gianni Orrù’s class and Sunday 5th from 5pm with the group directed by Elena Perra. Space for tradition also with the Campidanese poetry competition which on both days, from 7pm to 8pm, will be held in the former ethnological museum which is now the beating heart of the city’s folklore and home to the multimedia museum of improvised poetry. On this occasion, the Rimas association will present the poetic competition in the Campidanese language with local improvisers, introduced and presented by Antonio Pani.

However, the local identity heritage will also be accompanied by initiatives linked to different cultures. In particular, on Saturday at 5pm, at the Molentargius Park, with entrance from via Don Giordi, here is the Dance of the Lion and the Dragon. The show of the historic and multi-titled Kung and Taijiquan School, the Wudang You Xuande Dandao Institute in via Genova, will enjoy the performance of various of its athletes, who will show the various martial styles of Kung fu.

There will also be literature, with the presentation of Professor Fabio Parascandolo’s book ‘The metamorphoses of development. Genealogy of the global crisis and Mediterranean wear and tear of modernity’; the iconographic reading will be by Dr. Alessandra Carta. The appointment is scheduled for Saturday 5th at 5.30 pm in the church of Santa Maria di Cepola.

In the Su Forti tower, on Saturday and also Sunday, radio communication experiences with relics of the Second World War: the Agesci Quartu 1 Kelly Scout Group will in fact set up a radio communication station set at 2pm local time on 17 February 1943, when the flying fortresses of allies began the destruction of Quartu, Cagliari and Gonnosfanadiga. And the exhibition of war memorabilia from the Second World War is also planned at the Poetto forts, in the Carcangiolas tower area and in the surrounding forts, in via Tharros, Falsa Chiesetta and Simbirizzi. In Piazza Luigi Olla, however, the exhibition of static naval models curated by the National Sailors Association of Italy will be open to visitors.

The artists of Sardinia will also be the protagonists of the two days of Open Monuments in the city, in collaboration with Art Touch, Ileana Piga’s art services agency. In the church of San Giovanni Evangelista there will be the artists Roberta Spina (exhibition and live painting), Fabio Stocchino (exhibition), Lello Demuro (exhibition morning of the 4th and afternoon of the 5th), Gualtiero Capra (exhibition), Stefania Marotto (live painting on 5 morning), Julieta Perez (exhibition and live painting), Valentino Setzi (draper with live demonstration); in the Cesare Fois winery here are Andrea Melis (exhibition), Luisa Schirru (exhibition), Massimiliano Ibba (exhibition), Eleonora Lai (from 6pm on May 4th live painting), Corrado Casula (exhibition), Lello Demuro (afternoon of the 4th and morning of 5 exhibition), Stefania Marotto (exhibition on the 4th afternoon), Efisio Tidili (exhibition), Salvatore Mereu (exhibition), Luca Palmas (exhibition and live painting); finally, at Sa Dom’e Farra, an exhibition of paintings by Ignazio Cabras and Live painting curated by Roberto Albano.

And precisely between art and music the grand finale will be staged at Nuraghe Diana on Sunday at 6.30pm. The NAMM music school and the artist Roberta Spina meet to dialogue through a unique work of art, which will be born, live, from the encounter between music and painting in the evocative location of Is Mortorius in a quarter of an hour of pure creativity. NAMM Live is an event in which artists and bands follow one another during the show, proposing a repertoire of songs chosen from the key pieces of contemporary music, and therefore ranging from Rock to Blues, from Jazz to Funk, up to modern day hits.
