The next pastor of the Lucanian archdiocese was born on January 1, 1977 in Rosolini, in the province of Syracuse but grew up in Ispica, in the Ragusa area, and will replace Monsignor Salvatore Ligorio, who was elected metropolitan bishop on January 9, 2016.

Various stages will mark Carbonaro’s arrival in Potenza. The episcopal consecration will in fact take place on Saturday 4 May, at 4pm, in Rome in the Basilica of San Giovanni Latrano. Among over 700 lay people and around 80 priests and seminarians, the solemn celebration will take place in the presence of all the Lucanian bishops. An event with great theological value that can be followed live on Trm Network.

We will have to wait until Saturday 18 May for Carbonaro’s arrival in the region who, as he belongs to the order of the Mother of God, will immediately entrust himself to the intercession of the Madonna of Viggiano, in a moment of private prayer at the sanctuary of the town of Val d’ Agri. Immediately afterwards the bishop will move to Potenza where, still privately, he will visit the patients of the hospice of the San Carlo hospital in Potenza and then go to the cathedral of San Gerardo. There, at 12:00, the diocese will be taken over, in a rite presided over by Monsignor Ligorio who will welcome the new bishop and, having him ascend the chair, will welcome him as his successor by formally handing him the pastoral staff.

At 3pm Carbonaro will meet the representatives of the institutions at the Baden Pawell park and then celebrate his first mass in the church of Don Bosco, where, for the occasion, an external giant screen with 500 chairs will be set up to follow the event, this moment will also be broadcast live on Trm Network.

Among these events, on Monday 13 May, Ligorio will celebrate a holy mass in the cathedral to greet the faithful and thank them, a moment of sure emotional involvement for the faithful of the diocese.
