Tpl, discounted rate for university students in Siena

The Siena City Council this morning, Thursday 2 May, approved the draft agreement relating to the system of access at a discounted rate to local public transport (TPL) in Siena for university students.

The agreement between the Municipality of Siena, the University of Siena, the University for Foreigners of Siena, the regional company for the right to university education and Autolinee Toscane provides that the annual urban capital city pass for local public transport (tpl) will have a rate of 120 euros for students under the age of 26 and 170 euros for students over the age of 26.

The objective of the initiative – comments the Siena City Council in a speech – is to stimulate the spread of sustainable mobility, promoting forms of transport with a lower environmental impact instead of the use of private cars. Incentives for the use of public transport, in addition to reducing the effects on air quality and noise generated by private motorized road traffic, aim to improve the fluidity of road circulation and reduce the pressure on parking in areas surrounding large urban centres. attractors, such as the university campuses of the Santa Maria alle Scotte polyclinic, San Miniato, the railway station and the historic centre.

The maximum overall contribution paid by the signatories of the draft agreement relating to the system of access at a discounted rate to the local public transport in Siena for university students is equal to 327,840 euros, of which 25,840 are paid by the Municipality of Siena.

The duration of the agreement on the preferential rate of public transport for Siena university students will be one year starting from the actual start date of the provision of the subsidy, which will be possible only after all the signatory bodies have approved the agreement scheme and after Autolinee Toscane has carried out the assessments, formal steps and technological changes to its tariff system necessary to make the new discounts accessible to students.
