Jerusalem, 2 May 2024 – The USA is “determined” to ensure that the parties reach an agreement on the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the Israeli hostages in the negotiations in Cairo. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated this when he met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a long face-to-face meeting in Jerusalem.but also urged Hamas not to be an “obstacle” to the agreement.
And he stressed that the United States will not stop until “all the hostages have returned home.” The point of dissent between Israel and the Islamic faction always remains the same: Hamas wants the commitment that after the first phase of the agreement – three weeks and more of a truce for 22 or 33 hostages against an unspecified number of Palestinians now in prison – there is a permanent ceasefire and the IDF withdraws from all of Gaza. But Netanyahu confirmed to Blinken that Israel will not accept an agreement with Hamas that includes an end to the war and it is better for the Islamic faction to lower its demands, otherwise an agreement will be blocked.

Netanyahu: “The operation in Rafah depends on nothing: it will happen”
Indeed, he clarified to the US Secretary of State that the military operation in Rafah “it doesn’t depend on anything” is that “it will happen” Anyway (read here).
