Sanctions are triggered for absentee Ars parliamentarians

(ANSA) – PALERMO, 02 MAY – The provision adopted by the Presidential Council of the Sicilian Assembly came into force yesterday: the deputies who are absent during the parliamentary votes will receive a fine of 180 euros and will no longer be able to request two leaves of absence per month but only one. Similar sanctions also apply to absences from the commission. “I strongly wanted this provision to come into force on May 1st, as a sign of respect towards Sicilian workers who often carry out their tasks in difficult conditions – writes the president of the ARS Gaetano Galvagno on his Facebook profile – We exponents of the institutions and legislators we have delicate tasks, but at the same time we must be accountable to the voters who chose us to hold a prestigious position and to all Sicilians. Presence in the chamber for the approval of good laws is what citizens expect from It’s the least we can do. It’s a duty.” “I want to remind you that the decision to introduce sanctions for those absent was voted unanimously in the Presidency Council, confirming the desire to undertake rigorous action which belongs to all the political forces at the Ars – he concludes – I believe it is a beautiful signal, which becomes a concrete act on a day full of meaning”.
