A badger poisoned by pesticides treated – Teramo

TERAMO. A badger specimen, after having been treated by the veterinary service of the Teramo ASL, was released on Monday afternoon in the municipal area of ​​Torano Nuovo.
The animal was found on April 23 by a citizen on the side of the road, also in the municipal area of ​​Torano, suffering from serious convulsions. The animal, immediately rescued by the technical operators of the veterinary animal health service, had been examined by the veterinary doctors of the service, which is part of the Prevention Department. The veterinarians immediately diagnosed a state of intoxication from probable pesticides or herbicides.
The animal was treated pharmacologically and hospitalized for the time necessary for its full recovery until its release on Monday afternoon. «The badger is a protected species, an unavailable patrimony of the State», we read in a note from the Teramo ASL, «the average number of injured wild animals handled by the veterinary animal health service fluctuates between 100 and 150 per year. , including roe deer, foxes, porcupines and birds of prey. Some, the most serious cases, are sent to the Cras in Pescara, the wildlife recovery center.”
The badger recovered in Torano was taken care of by the veterinary doctors of the service who, after the diagnosis of intoxication, treated it and followed its course until it was released in the same area where the animal was found.
