Antica Kroton, construction site begins in via Acquabona

What currently appears to be a weed-infested and rather run-down area is on its way to becoming the first postcard of Ancient Kroton. Because precisely this area in the Acquabona district – between the Esaro river and the Pignataro ditch –
hosts the first construction site of the project which aims to enhance and network a series of archaeological sites linked to the ancient Magna Graecia city of Kroton.
A project that has gone through long and tortuous phases, which has seen remodulations in investments and projects, which has moved from the area in front of the former industrial site (where in 2014 a foundation stone was laid which remained unique) to a series of urban areas, not without ongoing controversies.

The construction site in question, which involves interventions for around 400 thousand euros, is part of the so-called Cluster 2, the sector of the Antica Kroton program which concerns the Urban Archaeological Area – Rediscovery of the central Acquabona district”. 8 million euros allocated to include the Acquabona site in the circuit of the city’s urban archaeological park network.
The intervention, which integrates with the construction of the new “Gravina” school above, aims to transform the area into a real open-air museum
