The abandonment of waste along the streets or on the outskirts of the city, almost always in countryside areas, has become more acute in recent times, creating micro landfills in many places in the Municipality of Terni. The areas most exposed to this phenomenon of environmental degradation are inevitably those close to the city and easily reachable by those who want to illegally dispose of their waste.
In order to combat this uncivilized behavior, which is now widespread, the CC Forestry Unit of Terni has intensified its control activity, carrying out constant monitoring of the territory on the sites most affected by this barbaric practice. Since the beginning of the year, the military has sent 30 reports of crime to the Terni Prosecutor’s Office and issued numerous administrative sanctions. Overall, the violations found amount to the sum of €79,500.
The Forestry Carabinieri also sent reports to the Municipality for waste removal and environmental restoration. In these piles we find everything from construction waste to old tyres, from bulky items to bags of common rubbish, but also special demolition waste, end-of-life vehicles, animal carcasses and sometimes even dangerous substances such as asbestos, lead batteries and used oils.
It is worth remembering that, from October 2023, the abandonment and uncontrolled storage of waste, carried out by a municipality, is no longer punished with an administrative sanction, but rather criminally. The crime is extinguished by carrying out correct disposal and paying the far from negligible sum of €2,500.00 in the case of non-hazardous waste and €5,000.00 in the case of hazardous waste.
It should be noted that the materials you wish to get rid of can be given free of charge to the Municipal Waste Centers of the municipality of Terni, thus avoiding both environmental degradation and sanctions, and yet, in some cases, it is incredible to see in which places inaccessible, someone manages to throw away old appliances and other things when a phone call could be enough to have them collected at your home.
